On Tuesday, just one day after Trump fired Defense Secretary Mark Esper, three Pentagon officials resigned from the Pentagon.

“Today, Dr. James Anderson, Acting Under Secretary of Defense for Strategy, Mr. Joseph Kernan, Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security, and Jen Stewart, Chief of Staff, delivered letters of resignation to the Secretary of Defense,” the Pentagon said in a statement to American Military News.

The Pentagon said the resignation of Kernan had been scheduled for several months. However, they did not notice that the resignations of Anderson or Stewart were expected.

Defense officials told Politico that after “repeated disputes with the White House personnel office,” Anderson stepped down.

“In his resignation letter, which was obtained by Politico, Anderson wrote,” I am especially grateful for having been entrusted with leading the committed men and women of Policy, who play a key role in the protection of our Country. “Our long-term success now, as ever, depends on adhering to the U.S. Both public servants swear to support and protect the Constitution.

Stewart will be replaced by Kash Patel, and Ezra Cohen-Watnick will replace Kernan.

The president of the House Armed Services Committee, Rep. Adam Smith, said Anderson’s resignation was disturbing.

It is difficult to overstate just how dangerous the Department of Defense’s high-level turnover is during the presidential transition phase. The Department ‘s top policy professional resigning the day after the Secretary of Defense was fired could mark the start of a process of demolishing the DoD, something that should alarm all Americans, Smith said in a statement to American Military News.
